The film
On 6 January 1980 Piersanti Mattarella, President of the Sicilian Region, is assassinated in Palermo: the film reconstructs the murder and the political climate that preceded it.
It is 6 January 1980. Piersanti Mattarella, President of the Sicilian Region, is on his way to Mass with his family when a young man approaches his car window and shoots him dead.
The investigation, opened by deputy prosecutor Pietro Grasso and continued by investigating magistrate Giovanni Falcone, uncovers dangerous links between the Mafia, politics, neo-fascists and the secret services. The film retraces the tensions and opposition that surrounded Mattarella’s reforms.
Alongside the historical reconstruction, a portrait emerges of a family and of a man guided by a sense of public service, the rule of law and solidarity.
In cinemas from 2 July 2020; TV premiere on Sky Cinema Due on 6 January 2021
