The documentary

Eugenio Bennato journeys through the origins, transformations and rebirth of Italian folk music.

Musician Eugenio Bennato and director Bruno Colella, close friends, are invited by mandolin player Mimmo Epifani to collect an award in a small village in Lazio. The result is a journey in which the destination matters less than the encounters.

From Epifani’s San Vito dei Normanni to the Naples of Peppe Barra and Tony Esposito and on to the Gargano of the Carpino singers, the film retraces Bennato’s bond with Roberto De Simone, the rediscovery of local traditions and the Mediterranean, Eastern and American influences that turned folk music into a contemporary language.

A story that weaves together music, fiction and documentary.
